There is tremendous power in journaling, especially when it comes to helping you lose weight. Journaling is the process of writing down your daily thoughts, accomplishments, mistakes, or anything you want. As for losing weight, journaling offers you a nonjudgemental space that is for your eyes only. It also helps you get clear and zone in on patterned behaviors that jeopardize your weight loss efforts. More importantly, journaling holds you accountable to yourself.

Anyone who has attempted to lose weight understands the reality of the constant judgments. Whether these opinions are positive or negative, these comments steer your weight loss efforts to directions that often disconnects your actions from your intentions. For instance, attempt to eat healthy during a social event, and you might hear statements that provoke you to eat junk foods. Begin to exercise and make way for the endless amount of workout advice. Oh, and my favorite, lose ten pounds, and someone tells you that you now look way too skinny. And what happens when you are forced to hear judgments regarding your weight loss efforts, you begin to doubt, question and worse, stop trying.

When you feel like the world is evaluating your every move, journaling comes to the rescue. A non-criticizing space where you can release your emotions. Journaling brings your emotions to the center of your focus and without the fear of ridicule, you can evaluate them, solve them and calm them. When you deal with your emotions, you break through limiting thoughts and facilitate change.

Journaling delivers you the opportunity to track your behaviors. There are a lot of reasons why you gain weight; some are apparent, and most you can’t see. Writing down your daily activities allow you to recognize those behaviors that cause you to sabotage your weight loss efforts. For instance, trying to understand why every night you experience intense cravings for sweets. If you write down the experiences you had before your night cravings, you will begin to figure out the causes. Once you start to understand, you can correct.

Accountability can be contributory in helping you achieve your weight loss success. Yes, you are determined to achieve your weight loss goals and keep the momentum towards continuing improvement. Unfortunately, often you fail to reach the goals you envision for yourself because you fail to hold yourself accountable for your actions. Journaling holds you accountable to YOU! Why do you think people love to create to-do lists, they like it because it helps them keep track of what they need to do. Just like a to-do list, journaling provides you with that ability to keep track of your actions steps, and this will lead you towards reaching smaller goals, which in turn will equal weight loss success.

Hopefully, I have inspired you to start to journal, especially if you are working on losing weight. Get yourself a beautiful journal and start to write. This space will help you learn yourself better, identify behaviors that cause you to gain weight, track your efforts and hold you accountable to your goals.
